Buddy Griffin of Houston, Texas, has been a solo entertainer for many years, performing across the U.S. and Canada, as well as in Great Britain, Europe and the Orient. He has frequently appeared on local television and was featured on the network TV show "Real People." Buddy's unique style of banjo playing appeals to audiences of all ages and his versatility with ukulele and guitar adds variety to his show. His musical repertoire covers a wide range of styles, including old standard favorites, pop tunes, country-western, dixieland, gospel and classical. Since Buddy is known for his wit and comedy, audiences can count on having a happy, up-beat experience with lots of laughter and probably a few surprises. Buddy also directs the 25-piece Jubilee Banjo Band. The JBB believes in preserving and sharing the happiest sound in the world--the banjo. The only way to keep the banjo alive, spread its happy sound, is to share--share its knowledge, experience, arrangements, etc. PBS-TV ran a 30-minute special on JBB'S "Salute to Vaudeville" show in December 1989. This has really opened doors for the JBB to play in many places. The Jubilee Banjo Band will put a "smile on your face, song in your heart, and a tap in your toe." The JBB instrumentation consists of 18 tenor banjos, piano, bass, drums, guitar and accordion. With such a wide variety of instruments, the JBB plays everything from the Merry Widow Waltz to Mississippi Mud, Semper Fidelis and Sweet Sue. |
