Name |
Painter, Ted |
Role |
Banjoist |
Sphere Of Activity |
Just as jazz styles were regional in nature, banjo playing styles often developed on their own - particularly in what, at the time, were regions off the "beaten path". A listening to a Ted Painter recording immediately illustrates the fact that in Kansas City - in the 1920s and 30s - they played the tenor banjo different than anywhere else. Painter was a great musician and banjo player who was responsible for developing a different and unique banjo sound and style which became the benchmark for other banjo players in the region. Though his style was carried on by many - most notable Epp Roller, Ted Painter was the originator. - Johnny Baier |
